How to Stay Safe During Roadside Repairs

You know what’s worse than a flat tire? A flat tire in the dark, on the side of a highway, with semis flying past like you're in a game of real-life Frogger. If you've ever had to wrench on your ride under those conditions, you know being seen isn’t optional.

So, here’s how to handle roadside repairs like a pro who doesn’t want to end up a cautionary tale.

1. Get the Hell Off the Road

First rule of breakdown club: Don't be dumb. If your rig’s still got any life left, limp it off to the shoulder. Farther, the better. Grass, gravel, ditch. You name it. Just don’t park halfway in a live lane unless you're beggin’ to get rear-ended by a distracted TikTok zombie.

2. Light Up Like a Christmas Tree

Your hazards are a start. But factory blinkers won’t cut it in a pitch-black thunderstorm or fog thicker than your uncle’s chili.

This is where STKR comes in.

Under Hood Work Light – Not just for turning wrenches. This beast throws out serious lumens across your entire engine bay (1,000 to be exact) and flips to a red strobe mode that screams “Hey, don’t hit me!” Mount it to the hood, roof, tailgate… hell, slap it on a fender and let it blink. Visible from all angles.

FLEXIT Headlamp PRO – Look, if you’re changing a tire in the dark, you need both hands. This headlamp has flexible positioning, a powerful front beam and peripheral lighting, and a red flasher on the back. So even while your face is in the wheel well, folks behind you know you’re there.

Together? You’re lit up like a roadside fireworks show. Safe, seen, and still gettin’ the job done.

3. Don’t Be a Shadow Ninja

Dark clothes might look cool, but they’re useless when you're inches from traffic. Keep a hi-vis vest in your emergency kit. Throw it on over your hoodie, flannel, whatever. You’re not out there to win a fashion show.

4. Work Fast, But Not Dumb

It’s tempting to rush. Adrenaline’s pumping. Trucks are whizzing past. But one bad move like the jack slipping, hands slipping, you slipping and it’s game over. Take your time. Use chocks. Set that parking brake. And if your gut says, “Maybe this isn’t safe”... wait for a tow.

5. Build Your Emergency Kit

If your trunk kit’s just a crusty jumper cable and a half-used flare from the Clinton years, it’s time to upgrade. Toss in:

  • STKR Under Hood Light
  • FLEXIT Headlamp PRO
  • First aid kit
  • Multi-tool
  • Jumper cables
  • Gloves, water, and snacks

Bottom Line?

Roadside repairs are no joke. One bad night, one distracted driver, and the odds aren’t in your favor. But if you're prepared, lit up, and thinking straight – you’ll be back on the road before your coffee gets cold.

Light smarter. Stay safer. Get home in one piece.
